Student Services

Attendance is important to academic success, and we will work with all of our students to help them achieve their best potential. We understand that there are reasons that students will need to miss school and we stress that communication with the school is key in working through attendance issues. We encourage students to bring in doctor's notes for any appointments during the school day or for illnesses that required a doctor’s visit. Please call into the absence line to report absences at (239) 377-1260 to help keep your student in good standing.

Make sure that your student checks their attendance in case they have been marked absent when they were in class. If this happens, then have your student reach out to their teacher.

Students who exceed 9 absences in a semester are eligible for credit denial. Credit denial means that a student who may otherwise pass the class would not receive credit for that course.  Students who are getting close to or exceed the 9 absences in a semester will have a letter sent home notifying the parent and student that they are at 7 absences and another when they have exceeded 9 days absent. Parents will be notified by the attendance office for an attendance meeting. Student who are habitually truant are eligible to have their license suspended until their school attendance has improved. All of these attendance procedures are per board policy and follow Florida statute.

We take our school environment seriously at BCHS and really emphasize Showing Respect and Kindness in our expectations. If a student is being made to feel uncomfortable, we encourage that student to reach out to us here at Student Services. We will work with them to make them as comfortable as possible during your time at Barron Collier.

Examples of bullying and/or harassment are repeated and unwanted behaviors including but not limited to teasing, social exclusion, threats, intimidation, stalking, physical touch, public humiliation, and sexual/religious/racial derogatory comments. These examples may occur in person, via social media, in written form and/or virtually.

Some tips to help you when dealing with bullying and/or harassment:

• The first thing that we ask you to do is to tell them to stop.
• Then do not engage them anymore--not in person and not via text/social media.
• “Block” them on social media platforms.
• Do not talk about the person to your peers in person, via text or social media, as this will escalate the situation. Please contact Mrs. Gersbach or Mr. Dawes in Student Services about the issue.
• If you have not spoken with Mrs. Gersbach or Mr. Dawes, then it has not been officially reported, so please be sure to see one of them.

Please notify Mrs. Gersbach or Mr. Dawes of any issues through Canvas email. Mrs. Gersbach is the primary contact for 9th and 11th graders and Mr. Dawes is the primary contact for 10th and 12th graders.

Report a Bullying Incident

Students may only ride the bus that they are assigned to ride. They may not ride home on another bus unless there are extenuating circumstances that need to be explained and sent in writing to Student Services at jacksopa@collierschools.com the day before the requested bus pass. Please include a parent contact in the email.

Students are required to sign in and off of the bus with their student ID badge, so it is imperative that they have that on their person.

If you have issues or concerns with transportation, you may contact area supervisor at (239) 377-0600 or reach out to Student Services if you do not get a response.

Barron Collier High School has a school nurse, Ms. Lisa Canale, to assist our students. Should your student not feel well during the school day they should visit the clinic.

Students are not allowed to carry medications to or in school, and they are not allowed in their vehicle, their locker or on their person. Should your student require medication during the school day then please contact Ms. Canale about dispensing it to your student during the day. There are some exceptions to self-carry medications such as asthma inhalers or epi pens. Should your student have a need similar to this then please contact Ms. Canale for a self-carry form that will have to be signed by your doctor.

You can contact Ms. Lisa Canale at 239-377-7260.

Students leaving before regular dismissal do not have to bring a note into the office any more, though they still can. Students can email Mrs. Jackson through the Student Services course in Canvas, and they will need to include time leaving and a parent contact number, as Mrs. Jackson will have to speak to a parent.  Alternately, the parent or guardain can just email Mrs. Jackson at jacksopa@collierschools.com or call (239) 377-1231 with the student name, student number, time leaving and a return phone number.

Please make sure that the student and/or parent gives Mrs. Jackson as much notice as possible in order to ensure that we have the student out on time. Parents showing up without notifying us prior to their arrival may have to wait before we are able to get a student called for dismissal.

If your student contacts you that they are not feeling well, please refer them to the nurse so that we can start the process of checking them out before you arrive.

If you have any questions on early checkout, please notify Mrs. Paula Jackson at jacksopa@collierschools.com or call (239) 377-1231 or email Mr. Robert Dawes at dawesro@collierschools.com.

In order to park in any lot on the BCHS campus, you must have a BCHS parking permit. In order to obtain a permit, you must apply online by following the online parking permit application process.

In order to be eligible for a permit, you must have a valid driver's license, insurance, current Florida registration for your vehicle and abide by all BCHS parking rules and regulations. The cost of a permit is $35.

If you are parking in the front lots and someone parks in your space, please park in the first spot in your row closest to the school and then let Mrs. Jackson know via Canvas email. Please include what your assigned spot is so that we can ticket that vehicle. If you park in the overflow spot and don't let Mrs. Jackson know through Canvas email, you may also receive a ticket.

Students marked tardy 6 or more times in a semester will start receiving detentions. The detention notice will be noted on the student’s tardy slip. If a student is unable to serve the detention by the due date or they are unsure of the due date, they should reach out to Mr. Gersonde through Canvas mail, and he will communicate with them. The expectation is that students serve their detentions on time or they will get ISS in addition to the detention.

Students must report to ISS, room 106, no later than 2:10 on the date of their detention. They will be released by 2:45 and must have their own ride home. If students have ISS, they will have to report to ISS by the tardy bell or they will receive a tardy or extended time in ISS.

Failure to serve detentions will also serve as an impediment to purchasing parking permits and other extra-curricular events.
